Brief Historyical/Culture and Livelihood Pattern of 16-Yangthang GPU
The word Yangthang came from Limboo language that is “Yang” means money and “Thang” means Upper (Paisa mathi) Yamgthang GPU comes under 02-Yangthang constituency having GP unit no. 16. The GPU has 2273 population and 517 households based on 2025 census done by GPU itself with mainly Limboo community. The GP has 5 wards namely Chongzong ward no. 01, Toyang ward no. 02, Arigoan ward no. 03, Langang ward no.04 and upper Yangthang ward no. 05.
The GPU consists of more than 40 SHGs under SRLM, 5 registered NGOs. It is 3 km away from main Gyalshing Bazar and district having altitude of 4567 feet. It has potential for tourism development and has unique places and view points with historical importance.One of the main important places of the tourist is “Peeth lamba cave” which is historically related with the Limboo community and origin of the name of Village Langang. The village Folk indulge in various Agricultural, historical and veterinary activities such as rice, cardamoms, orange and ginger and engaged in dairy piggery and poultry’s.
